1D – Athens to Atlanta 2012

7 Oct

With 30 years of tradition, Athens-to-Atlanta is the oldest and most famous road skate in America. Starting in Athens, Georgia, participants skate through beautiful country roads and quiet suburbia before navigating city streets and triumphantly crossing the 87-mile finish line in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park.
The course is challenging and requires experienced skating ability, courage, and stamina. Skaters who may not be ready for the whole 87 miles may opt for the 38-mile event, which also starts in Athens, or the latest 52-mile event, which starts near Dacula, GA. Both four and five wheeled skates are welcome and anyone from 8 to 80 years old may enter.

Day Five :  Last morning skate through the small city parks, past art exhibits and down to the historic building on the riverfront of the Mississippi

Boasting perhaps the best overall network of paved trails anywhere in North America, Minnesota has much to offer skaters and bicyclists.
Minnesota’s Department of Natural Resources has created dozens of long paved trails and local governments and citizen groups have joined in to develop even more. Most of these trails are laid out on old railroad beds, meaning the trails are flat, long, and scenic.
The Minnesota Skating Adventure is perfect for all ability levels, with van support and multiple route options each day.
You do need to be able to brake and skate on your own.
